Recreation Center Renovations on the Horizon

The Cameron County Commissioners and the Cameron County Recreation Center are in the process of making significant renovations to the Cameron County Recreation Center (aka “Memorial Hall.”) The first project will be to completely remove and replace the roof which will be funded with ARPA funds (COVID 19 - American Rescue Plan.) Subsequent improvements are intended to be funded by the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority’s Multi-Purpose Communities Facilities Program under which the County will be applying for approximately $500,000. The purpose of the program is to redevelop important community facilities with the overall intention of increasing broadband access to the public. Exterior rehabilitation would include siding, windows, painting, solar lighting, concrete work, and new fencing around the basketball court. Interior renovations would include development of a co-working space with free internet for youth to do school work, for remote workers, and a private room for persons to access healthcare remotely; construction of a new side entrance with an ADA compliant lift (elevator), new LED lighting throughout, installation of new flooring throughout (excepting the downstairs ballroom and hallway which were newly replaced,) bathroom renovations, drywall throughout, and proper signage throughout. The County’s goal is to increase the usage of the recreation center by making it more attractive, comfortable, and user-friendly for persons of all ages. Future improvements and additions to the activities and amenities available at the recreation center will be forthcoming.
